Legal Professional Development Lunch & Learn Series
BCASBO is pleased to introduce a new Legal Professional Development Lunch & Learn Series for the 2026-2027 school year for members beginning this fall. This series will provide practical, learning-focused legal education for school district business officials across British Columbia. Sessions will focus on real-world legal considerations connected to K–12 operations, administration, risk, documentation, decision-making, and governance.
Term 1 of the series, currently under development with approximately six virtual sessions that will take place between September and December 2026, with the September session already confirmed – registration details below.
September Session
Liability and Risk Management for School District Business Officials
This session will focus on waivers and informed consent, with practical considerations tailored to BC school district representatives. The presentation will touch on issues relevant to school activities, field trips, and other district-related contexts where waivers or informed consent may arise.

Format: Virtual via Teams
Registration Deadline: Friday, September 18, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
Members and interested district staff are welcome to register. Space may be limited, with priority given to BCASBO members.
Upcoming Sessions
Upcoming sessions will focus on practical legal topics relevant to school district business officials and other district personnel. Additional dates, presenters, and registration details will be added as they are confirmed.
October 2026 – two sessions: Workplace Investigations Contract Law Fundamentals
November - December 2026 – three sessions which may include employment and labour law, administrative law and governance, The School Act, and personal employment contracts for senior staff.
Term 2 of the series, to be offered in 2027, will build on the feedback from Series 1.
