Leadership Development Program

BCASBO’s Leadership Development Program is a cohort-based learning series designed to support current and emerging school business officials across British Columbia.

The program is grounded in the Ministry of Education and Child Care’s Management Foundation Standards and focuses on practical leadership development in areas including governance and legislation, working with people, evidence-informed decision making, planning for impact, financial and resource management, and relations with First Nations.

Planning is currently underway for Cohort 9, which is expected to begin in January 2027. Registration information will be available in September 2026.

Building on the work completed through Cohort 8, BCASBO is also developing a collection of reusable professional learning resources through the Ministry’s Brightspace platform. Existing Leadership Series materials are being reviewed and adapted into structured learning modules that may include practical activities, case studies, tools, reflection exercises, knowledge checks and other resources for school business officials.

Cohort 9 will continue the interactive, applied approach of previous Leadership Series cohorts, with participants learning from content-area specialists, experienced school district leaders and BCASBO colleagues. Future Cohort 9 materials will also help strengthen and expand the Brightspace resource over time.

Building for the future: The goal is not only to support Cohort 9 participants, but to create a growing library of professional learning resources that can continue to support BCASBO members well beyond any individual leadership series cohort.
